History
FCA Cheerleading began with one camp at Vanguard University in 2006. Soon afterward, the ministry began a partnership with Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), one of the leading cheerleading instruction companies in the world, to host summer camps. FCA Cheerleading hosted four camps in 2007, five camps in 2008, seven camps in 2009 and eight camps in both 2010 and 2011.
Former University of Georgia cheerleading coach Marilou Braswell was first hired in October 2007 as the Regional Director of FCA Cheerleading. In December 2008, the ministry became FCA’s ninth national Sports Specific Ministry (SSM) and Marilou was named National Director. SSMs like FCA Cheerleading are designed to impact specific sports communities for Christ by ministering to athletes and coaches united around the particular sport where their greatest passion lies. As such, FCA Cheerleading unites individuals who share a passion for serving Christ with a passion for cheerleading.
In 2010, FCA Cheerleading secured CHEERSPORT as its first national sponsor. The ministry will collaborate with this premier organization to make a positive impact among the world of cheerleaders and coaches across the country. And beginning in Summer 2012, the ministry will also begin to offer private summer cheer camps for teams who prefer the comforts of their team's gym or school.
From the East to the West Coasts, FCA Cheerleading has touched the lives of more than 3,000 cheerleaders and coaches in just five years. In 2010 alone, 22 girls accepted salvation and nearly 150 more rededicated their lives to Jesus Christ. We look forward to experiencing the fullness of God's blessings as we continue to pray, serve and give to make a difference through FCA Cheerleading!
